Race Tips

Size counts.  Within the allowed size limits (see Eligibility, above), the smaller your duck is,the faster it will be.

Caution! Strong headwinds.  Breeze off the ocean can push your duck back if it is high and wide.

Don’t run aground.  There are shallows and rapids that can catch your duck if it floats too deep in the water.

Don’t get upset.  Many manufactured toy ducks have trouble staying upright, and may even run the whole race upside-down.  Prevent this by attaching a weight to the duck’s bottom.  a quarter held on with masking tape works well.

The Westport quilters have produced another handcrafted masterpiece featuring waves and mermaids.  Preview it at the Westport Hotel.  You need not be present to win.  Tickets cost $1.00 each, six for $5.00, or fifteen for $10.00.  Buy tickets at the event or in advance at the Westport Store.
